Operational Risk Management (ORM) plays a critical role in aviation safety. It also forms the core of an effective Safety Management System (SMS). This training targets Civil Aviation Authorities (CAAs) and Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs). In fact, Operational Risk Management (ORM) is considered essential for both regulatory compliance and proactive safety strategies in aviation.
The course helps participants identify hazards and manage operational risks in a structured way. It follows ICAO SARPs, SMS requirements, and international best practices. Participants learn how to apply risk-based thinking at strategic, tactical, and operational levels using Operational Risk Management (ORM) principles.
During the training, participants use the multi-step ORM process in real operational contexts. They assess probability, severity, and exposure. They evaluate residual and acceptable risk. The course also strengthens decision-making during organizational change and daily operations, highlighting the value of Operational Risk Management (ORM) throughout these activities.
The extended five-day format allows deeper learning and practice. Participants work with realistic aviation case studies. They apply risk assessment matrices and safety tools. Practical exercises reinforce each learning objective and build confidence. Furthermore, Operational Risk Management (ORM) techniques are applied throughout all exercises to ensure practical skill development.
The course encourages active participation and discussion. Instructors guide participants through real-world scenarios from CAAs and ANSPs. Organizations may customize the content to reflect their regulatory framework and operational environment. The course can also be delivered at the location of the client.
By the end of the program, participants can integrate ORM into everyday operations. They can support a stronger safety culture. They also contribute more effectively to their organization’s SMS.
Participants who successfully complete the course receive an IATA Certificate. They may also apply the course toward the IATA Diploma in Safety Management in Civil Aviation.
